SAFARI Techs to boost gas cylinder output

Sungai Petani, Feb 20, SAFARI Techs PLT which manufactures liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) composite cylinders, is optimistic of boosting production to 5000 units a month starting next year.

The company, which is under Malaysian Technology Development Corporation’s (MTDC) Symbiosis 3.0 programme aimed at increasing the number of technology-based startups, currently was able to produce only 500 to 700 composite cylinders per month, said chief executive officer Mohd Faridzul Asyraf Mat Arifin.

These cylinders are being produced under a pilot project in collaboration with SIRIM Tech Venture Sdn Bhd (STV).

” For the initial and market penetration phase, the LPG cylinders are manufactured using existing STV facilities. Subsequently, Safari and STV will work together to transfer the technology for manufacturing on an industrial scale,” he told reporters after Safari inked memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with STV and Astana City Group Sdn. Bhd. (ACGSB) here today.

Mohd Faridzul signed on behalf of Safari while STV was represented by its chief executive officer Ajmain Kasim and ACGSB by marketing director Che Mohd Faizul Che Abdullah. The signing was witnessed by MTDC chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus.

Mohd Faridzul said the technology used by the company, which involved combining metal and plactic parts at the early stage of producing LPG cylinders, could help prevent gas leakage.

“Our gas cylinder has benefits such as being lightweight (60 per cent lighter than common LPG metal cylinders), safe as it doesn’t explode in the event of fire, non-corrosive and translucent, whereby the gas level can be viewed through the cylinder’s wall,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Norhalim said Safari’s partnership with STV and ACGSB would allow research findings, development and industry innovation to be brought to the market smoothly.

MTDC played the role of identifying technologies or innovations from local universities that could be commercialised, and the STV team, through its innovative results, has been selected into MTDC’s Symbiosis entrepreneurship programme, he said.
